Best Friend Tag!

Hey Hey! I promised more posts in December and here’s another one featuring my bestie for a best friend tag. I decided to do this 1.) because it’s easier to film sometimes and 2.) it gives you all an opportunity to get to know me a little more and see what i’m like from my best friends perspective. In this video you will see us answer a series of questions to see not only how much she knows me but how much I know her as well. Some questions aren’t as easy as we thought lol. I had so much fun filming this and I want to thank my bestie JaVe for agreeing to do this post with me. I hope you all enjoy! Comment and Subscribe!!!

Music Mondays: Kanye Krazy?

Hey Hey! Today's post is going to be about the one and only Mr. West. I know we all have seen Kanye a lot in recent headlines for his infamous rants and unapologetic statements however, this time it is a bit different as he was hospitalized. Now let me back up a little and talk about how I was able to win tickets to see him perform in Washington, DC next week at the Verizon Center. I won the tickets back in October and I was more than excited that I would be going to see Ye....IT'S KANYE WEST! I was prepared to have my mind blown. My biggest concern was what I planned to wear to the concert and what merchandise I was going to purchase while there. Weeks later I kept seeing posts and articles on social media of Kanye ranting at his concerts about various topics such as Donald Trump (rolls eyes) and walking out on shows. I just thought this was typical erratic Kanye behavior.....erratic behavior that would somehow manifest into something dope. (I was very hopeful as you can see) I had only hoped that he would just chill when he came to DC so I could hear him perform "Can't Tell Me Nothing". Then there was that morning where all my friends who knew how hype I was to be going to his concert hit me up to let me know that it was rumored that he had cancelled all his remaining shows. I wish ya'll could've seen my face. I sent a short "I know" to everyone that day because I was still hopeful that if Kanye hasn't said it yet, I won't believe it. Hours later I saw that TicketMaster and other ticket vendors were sending out refunds. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! My initial response was anger. I was so mad at Kanye you would've thought that he called me at home or something. I was going on a tangent thinking that he was being "crazy" and not thinking about the millions of people that wanted to see him perform. Then it hit me. Kanye is human just like me, only difference is he lives his life in the public eye so it gives people an open invitation to judge and say how they feel he should act and handle life. That's so not fair.

So after reading and finding out that Kanye was hospitalized for stress and exhaustion at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles following several chaotic days on tour, I felt horrible. I felt really bad because I, a person in the mental health field, didn't think for a second that there could've been something deeper behind his behavior. Granted I know his hospitalization was for stress and exhaustion however, when you look at Kanye's life he's been through a lot. He went through a traumatic vehicle accident where he nearly died and he lost his mother unexpectedly. He had also just experienced his wife and mother of his children recently being robbed at gunpoint. Those things take a HUGE toll on anyone. Why is Kanye supposed to be able to handle everything and never feel overloaded emotionally or mentally? Because he's famous? That's just not fair.

Of course we will never know exactly what has caused Kanye's recent hospitalization because we only get second-hand information from the media, I for one sincerely hope that Kanye has been able to get all needed treatment. He has been spotted out in public recently and although it hasn't been with individuals whom are my cup of tea, I hope that he is able to remain stabilized and get back to the music. Thank ya'll for reading! Share your thoughts below! What do you think about Mr. West?

MUSIC MONDAYS!!

Hey Hey! It’s Monday and you know what that means for my blog….MUSIC MONDAYS! So over the past week I’ve been listening to Bruno Mars newest album “24K Magic” and I AM HOOKED! I tend to save albums for when I am traveling as that gives me the opportunity to fully listen all the way through, so that’s what I did to listen to this project. I was traveling back home to southern VA when I gave it a listen and I was completely blown away! “24K Magic” is the first single that Bruno put out from the album and that song is definitely catchy and makes you want to hit a quick lil jig as soon as it comes on. Then there’s songs such as “Perm” that in my opinion gives off a sound reminiscent of James Brown, which I grew up with my dad blasting. There’s an older feel to the album and its’ definitely nostalgic. I can’t forget to mention my favorites “That’s What I Like”, “Versace On The Floor”, and "Straight Up & Down”. There’s one word to describe all three of these songs….Sexy! I just love the smooth and sexy lyrics! I’m not quite sure if Bruno is known for being a pop artist however, the songs on this album are full of soul and R&B and that’s what has me vibing with it the way I do. I never really listened to Bruno Mars’ music beyond the singles that he put out so giving this album a listen really allowed me to hear and notice his vocal ability. I think his voice is amazing! It’s so crazy that I never noticed it before! I think that this album couldn’t have come at a better time. With so much of the current music being very trendy and a lot of artists having similar sounds, it’s refreshing to have an album that is not only nostalgic but does not sound like anything else. If you haven’t already, give this album a listen and let me know what you think. Also, let me know in the comments what you have been listening to! Music is life!  I hope you guys enjoy this post and don’t forget to comment and subscribe by email.

RECENT FAVORITES!!!

Hey Hey! Today’s post is going to be about my recent favorite beauty/skincare/hygiene products. I originally intended to make a post sharing my “recent empties” which are the empty bottles of the products i’ve recently finished using. So much time got away from me that my small pile of empties became a huge pile of favorites, so I decided to do a favorites post instead. In this post you will see some of the products i’ve used over the past few months that I really enjoyed. I will also share with you how they work and my thoughts about them. Check out the link below to see all my “Recent Favorites”. I have also supplied a list of all items discussed in the video as well as links to purchase them. I hope you enjoy!

Was October Litty City?

Hey Hey! It has truly been too long! I miss my blog! Between starting a new practicum site, classes and work I’ve been so so busy! TOO BUSY! Although I’ve had some serious changes in my schedule that I had to get acclimated to, I was able to throw a little bit of fun in the mix. Don’t I always? Let me give y’all the run down of the month of October. So for starters I am a fall baby with my birthday falling on the 27th of October. This year I turned 27 on the 27th so I had to make it special! Birthday’s mean so much to me as I really appreciate being able to see another year of life and reflecting on the woman I have become. With that being said, I decided that I was going to celebrate the entire month and make October Litty City!
I started the month off by going to see Maze and Frankie Beverly perform live at the Altria Theater in Richmond, Virginia. Now I have older parents compared to some of my counterparts so I grew up on my mother humming these tunes and playing the quiet storm. When I saw that they were coming to town I knew I had to snag those tickets and I chose to take no other than my mother with me. When I say this concert was one of THE DOPEST THINGS I’ve ever been to, that’s an understatement. It was truly breathtaking and so refreshing! There’s just something about live music that just feels good! You can definitely feel the passion, the honesty, the originality, and the soul. Maze and Frankie Beverly are truly timeless!

Okay so after being able to witness a concert like that, I was clearly on cloud 9 and wasn’t trying to come down (trey voice) lol. Being that my bestie boo’s birthday is also in the month of October on the 19th, sister girl wanted to go to Houston, Texas to attend the Colts/ Texans game. Being that I am a lifetime Colts fan and she finally came to her senses, of course I agreed. So two weeks after seeing Maze and Frankie Beverly perform, I hopped on a plane to Houston. I had never been to Texas before and I was more than excited to try the food and explore all that Texas had to offer. I absolutely LOVED Houston. After the first day of being there I had decided that I wanted to stay forever. As soon as I got there my first meal consisted of bomb tacos from a spot called Torchy’s Taco’s. That pretty much sealed the deal lol. The restaurant is known for “damn good tacos” and I would have to agree. I was pleased. After eating, my bestie wanted to go to the Houston Zoo located in the Hermann Park area of Houston. The Houston Zoo is a 55 acre zoological park that prides themselves on providing their guests with a fun, unique, and inspirational experience that fosters appreciation, knowledge and care for the natural world. I was truly captivated by all the animals at the zoo, especially the gorillas. The weather was perfect as the high for Houston the entire weekend was about  90 degrees. After leaving the zoo my bestie and I rested up for the festivities of the night as we were going to see Chance the Rapper perform at the Houston Revention Music Center. Yes, another concert and I WAS HYPE! I had just recently gotten into Chance’s music so finding out that we would be seeing him perform while in Houston had me super hype! Naturally we got all cute and headed to the venue where the concert was held. I honestly don’t even have words to describe the concert. It was amazing! The only thing I can say is please try and go see Chance on his Magnificent Coloring World Tour. You won’t be disappointed. The next day we prepared to attend the big game! Of course we started off the day by hitting a dope brunch spot. We went to Max’s Wine Dive. I was pleased with the food as well as the mimosa’s. If you’re ever in Houston, try their collard greens because SHEESH! So good! As you can tell if I didn’t like anything else about Houston I definitely was pleased with the food. Later in the day, we got ready to head to the game. We had great seats and were seated by some cool Texans fans that we shared some healthy competition with. The game was so stressful but still so much fun. I prefer not to discuss the score. The next day we hopped on a plane to head home. I wish I had more time because Texas treated me oh so good! I definitely plan to go back!

Now that brings us to the last week in October which is a celebration of yours truly! For my birthday I chose to start it off by celebrating at Rosebar in Washington, DC on the day after my birthday. I have been to Rosebar plenty of times and I know the dj as we are from the same place so I already knew I was going to have a great time. I got a table and had my girlies join me! I don’t have much to say about that night either because I was having the time of my life! I had dope people around me and the vibe was everything! I’ll leave it at that. LOL The next day I gathered my girls to drive to Philly where we would continue the festivities. I had never been to Philly before and decided since it wasn’t a far drive why not take a quick girls trip? I always have the best time with my friends so I knew no matter the place their energy would make the trip enjoyable. We went to a lounge called 1925 and it was pretty dope. Good music, good crowd, and good vibes! That’s literally all I could ever ask for! The next day before leaving we had to grab a Philly cheesesteak. I couldn’t go all the way to Philly without getting one. Who does that? I was recommended to go to a spot called Ishkabbles. It was amazing! My girls and I each got something different and we each thought it was SO GOOD. After eating we browsed the shops on South Street and did some slight retail therapy before hitting the road. The weather Gods were on my side as Philly is normally pretty cold however, it was almost 80 degrees while I was there. Overall my birthday weekend was amazing and I truly truly enjoyed myself! It’s very rare that I take the time to do things for myself and I definitely did this my birthday this year. I didn’t want it to end! It felt good to make it all about me for a change! I can’t wait to see what 27 has planned for me!
Comment down below and let me know how you like to celebrate your birthday! I’d love to know! Also don’t forget to subscribe by email. Until next time!

#OOTD

Hey Hey! It has certainly been a minute since i’ve posted so I knew when I did get a chance to blog it had to be good! I don’t know about you guys but I feel like August came and went so fast! It seems I have been busy all month and now I am back in school and even more busy. Although I know I will be super busy with all the demands of school, work, and interning, I always take a break and find time for some fun! This past weekend I went to the museum of fine arts in Richmond, Virginia with one of my friends and decided to have them capture some pictures and video clips of my outfit. As i’ve mentioned before I am very girlie however, my style is more comfy/casual chic. I like to refer to it as model off duty lol.
For this trip to the museum I paired a simple charcoal gray crop top (Wetseal) with some slightly high waisted distressed denim jeans (American Eagle). In the 90’s ripped jeans and crop tops were all the hype and it’s interesting to see how some of the older styles have made their way back around and into my closet. I also threw on some nude scrappy heels (Steve Madden) and  grabbed my taupe handbag (BCBG) to fit my classic denim jacket (Levis) in. I was super comfortable (minus the heels lol) and enjoyed my time in the museum exhibit. When I shop i’m never on a quest for the most expensive item as I like what I like and that can be found literally in any store. I don’t discriminate when it comes to fashion as I like to feel comfortable and like myself. I love finding a good deal and I also enjoy splurging on myself from time to time. This outfit is a perfect example of the range of clothing in my closet. I hope you guys enjoy this post and don’t forget to comment and subscribe by email. Also, click like on my video!

Photography By Joshua Maclin!

Hey y'all! Back in February I took some photos with the amazing photographer, Joshua Maclin, as part of his "People Series". When I was asked to be apart of this I was more than delighted! Josh explained how he wanted to highlight the natural beauty in all different types of people. That was so dope to me and that made me even more excited to do the shoot. I was encouraged to wear minimum makeup and a simple black turtleneck. Anyone who knows me knows that attire like that fits right into my normal comfy chic style! The entire experience made me feel free as I didn't have to look or embody anything but my true self. I loved every minute of this shoot! I am truly grateful for the experience! Below are some of my favorite photos that Josh shared with me! I will also include his website and social media if anyone is interested in contacting him! Thanks for checking out this post!

Follow Your Heart!

Hey Hey! Today I wanted to share some beautiful street art in the Union Market Area of Washington, DC. The walls were covered with vibrant murals from the graffiti artist "Mr. Brainwash". The positive words and bright hearts visible to anyone who passed by screamed love and good vibes to me! I loved every second of being out there in the presence of the art and the other people who were eager to get a picture just as I was. Mr. Brainwash is a LA-based graffiti artist who originally created the heart-filled mural for International Women's Day in 2015. Even our First Lady Michelle Obama got her picture taken at the mural when she met Mr. Brainwash. How dope is that?! If you're ever in DC go to Union Market and take a look for yourself! I promise you'll be blown away!

My Everyday Makeup Look

Hey Hey! Recently I have been wearing the products in the photo above to create a natural glowy everyday look. I will be the first to admit that when it comes to makeup I am pretty laid back. I love getting dolled up but I like to have the least amount of steps when completing whatever makeup look I do. I’m going to tell you a bit about why I love each product and how I use it.

Let’s start with the base, for primer I’ve recently been using either Maybelline’s Baby Skin or Becca’s Ever-Matte Powerless Priming Perfector. I use the baby skin when I am using powder foundation and the becca primer when I am using liquid foundation. I have VERY oily skin so when I am using powder foundation, the baby skin primer conceals any large pores and assists with smooth application of the powder so it does not look chalky. I use the becca primer to keep my oily skin under control while wearing liquid foundation. In the past, I would have to blot my face so often but with this product I am good for the 12 hours it says on the packaging. Both products create a barrier between my skin and whatever product I chose to use which I love. Each product also does exactly what they say they do so if you have oily skin I would most definitely recommend these!

My foundation stays the same as I either use a powder or liquid foundation. I usually use Nars powder foundation but I ran out and decided to use my Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Foundation. I have fallen in love with this product for my everyday work makeup. It doesn’t even feel like I have anything on my face and that’s my favorite thing about this product. This powder foundation is also buildable so you can still conceal with it if you want. When I am going out or will need my makeup to last all day, I wear my Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint. I absolutely LOVE this stuff. Nars literally made this product for oily girls like me! A little bit of this product goes a long way and it has the perfect smooth coverage. Paired with that becca primer I am invincible in this summer heat!

I only conceal my eyes and I have a couple of concealers that I switch out here and there but my favorite that I grab the most is my Make Up Forever Full Cover Concealer. No matter what I pair this with, it does the job!

For blush  I seem to always grab my Mac Cosmetics Powder Blush in the color format. This blush is just perfect for my skin tone no matter the season. I personally love this color because it is more matte and doesn’t have any glitter in the pigment.

Recently for my eyes I haven’t been using eyeliner and I definitely do not use any of my eyeshadows as I should. I have been sticking to mascara  to give my almond eyes the pop they need. I use the Loreal Paris Telescopic Clean Definition Mascara in the color blackest black and the Loreal Paris Voluminous Mascara in carbon black. These both work very well together and I’m guessing it’s because they are from the same brand.

I pair this everyday look with whatever lippie I am in the mood for that day. The look is very versatile in that you can wear a gloss or a matte lip. I typically throw on one of my favorite glosses to complete this glowy look.

Welp! That completes my go-to everyday makeup look! Do you use any of my everyday products? Let me know in the comments. Also let me know what your go-to makeup look consists of!

Self-Improvement

Hey Hey! Today I decided to write about a topic that I felt would be beneficial for everyone….SELF-IMPROVEMENT. I’m a twenty something year old woman and I have to admit that there came a time when I felt I wanted to “fix” the way I felt about things. I personally think that everyone gets this feeling sooner or later and whether or not you pay attention to it determines if anything will change. When you are twenty something there are so many responsibilities tugging on you that make it very easy to neglect yourself.  I don’t think this feeling is geared specifically at a person’s entire life. It could be your career choices, your finances, your spirituality, or in my case, your emotions. Now I am not perfect by any means nor am I “fixed” or an expert on this topic. I just took the time to look at the girl in the mirror and REALLY look at her and the woman she had become. I loved her but I did not like how she would put the needs of others and their happiness before her own. She would be left feeling so empty. Ya know pouring into the glasses of others and leaving her glass just as dry as the Sahara Desert. That was honestly the biggest thing that I wanted to “fix” because when I thought about all the instances in which I did that, I would find myself extremely angry. SO! I decided that a change had to be made and I had to be forreal if I wanted to see that change actually happen. The first thing that I found was that I was not broken and did not need to be “fixed", I just needed to make some IMPROVEMENTS. I want to share some of the things that have assisted me in pouring into myself and making positive self-improvements for the better.

1.) Learning to say “NO”: I am a people pleaser and I enjoy making others happy HOWEVER COMMA sometimes it would be at the expense of my own happiness and that is a big no no! I still find joy in making others happy but now I make sure to include myself because I have to smile too! Shoot! :)

2.) Alone Time: You can’t make any self-improvements if you don’t have a sense of self. I used to distract myself and avoid avoid avoid! By nature I am an introvert so I embraced this personality trait and spent just as much time with myself as I did with others. In my alone time I self reflect and recharge. I found this to be extremely refreshing and beneficial in me reconnecting and learning different aspects about myself.

3.) Don’t Feel Bad When People Don’t Understand: This is pretty self-explanatory and I had a very hard time with this. There are going to be some people who just can’t adjust to you wanting to grow and how you choose to go about it. I’ve realized….that’s life.
“I’m stuck in my ways and you’re offended..that’s life”. -Kendrick Lemar

4.) Overcome Your Fears: No one is exempt from having fears. We ALL have them and it is OKAY. I have learned that my fears keep me in the same position, doing the same things, and feeling the same way preventing me from growing. I try to recognize my fears and reflect on these areas for growth. I have also realized that i am only fearful about things that I have not addressed. (STILL working on this)

5.) Avoid Negativity: My aura and my energy mean EVERYTHING to me! I do not spend too much time with negative people as I find it extremely draining. GOOD VIBES ONLY. Simple as that!

6.) Meditate: Meditation has not only allowed me to be more calm but also more conscious. I’ve come to many self-realizations through meditating. Definitely plenty of valuable “oh sh*t” moments have come of this new habit.

7.) Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: This feels so awkward lol but it always feels so good when you really do it. Liberating is an understatement.

These are only a few of the things that have helped me in working towards self-improvement. Trust me, the list could go on and on! Feel free to comment below letting me know what you would add to this list! I would love to read your thoughts on this post and any insight you may have regarding self-improvemtent and personal growth. Share your journey!

What Are You So Afraid Of?

So I came across this on my Pinterest today and it really had me thinking because I have to ask myself this ALL THE TIME. There surely are some things that I'm afraid to act on because I'm afraid of the outcome. I read somewhere that the fear of feeling pain is worst than the pain itself and I couldn't agree more! We create so much of our future through our thoughts and our fears. It's difficult  to take a leap of faith and just act on what you instantly feel when you're fearful. In some instances I have been seizing the moment and going for what it is I want, but in other areas I still battle with apprehension because I'm simply afraid. I'm surely working on this and the next time you feel yourself overthinking out of fear, I want you stop and ask yourself, what am I so afraid of?

Hostess With The Mostest!

Hey Hey! I know it has been a few weeks since I last posted and basically I was just busy finishing up my semester at school and working like crazy. Now that things have simmered down a bit I wanted to share an awesome event that I was apart of in the mist of my busy schedule. On May 6th and & 7th I was asked to host a Bobbi Brown Ultimate Makeup Lesson Event at the Nordstrom in Short Pump Mall located in Richmond, Virginia. I worked the event from 9am to 6pm on both days. Whether customers were looking to refresh their beauty routine, learn to do a smokey eye, or just simply wanted to try something new, there were Bobbi-trained makeup artists on-site to assist them. In addition to receiving makeup lessons free of charge, customers were taught Bobbi’s tricks of the trade and given the opportunity to have a beauty routine that was just right for them! I had such a great time working with the awesome staff at the Richmond Bobbi Brown location and I learned just as much as the customers from my 2 days working the event. I also had my makeup done every morning when I arrived and had frequent touch-ups throughout the day. Who wouldn’t love that type of treatment? Not only were the staff so much fun and a pleasure to work with, I was offered a $200 credit towards Bobbi Brown products of my choice. Can we say SCORE?!? lol All in all I had a blast and I am so glad I agreed to be apart of the event. Things went so well that they already requested my services for their winter event in December! Below I have included some pictures from the event as well as the goodies that I chose! :)

#OOTD

Hey Hey! It’s been a minute but I'm back and I decided to do an #OOTD! Whether I am getting ready to paint the town or meet up with some friends, my style is definitely comfy chic. I like to be comfortable and cute at the same time. On this particular day I decided to pair my favorite high waisted wide-leg jeans with a simple gray graphic tee and some wedges. I’m also in love with both vintage and retro style sunshades, so I had to throw some on to complete my comfy chic style. This was soooooooooo comfortable and I got a ton of compliments on the look!  Comment below and let me know what your staple clothing items are!
